About the Staff

Michael DePasquale

A Chicago native, Michael graduated from Valparaiso University in 1997. After teaching in Streator, Illinois he came to Portage to join two great directors. He enjoys his family, his animals, and riding on his motorcycle.





William Timmerman

The assistant director of the Marching Indians, William has served several years at that role. He is a Portage native and came back to serve his community and school. He has been with Portage Schools for many years and has been intermediate concert band director. A graduate of Ball State and received his masters from Valparaiso University, Bill was Michael's mentor while student teaching.



Robert Symer

The head of the Portage Music Program, Robert has been there for many years. He is also the Jazz instructor and leads the premiere advanced concert band. Robert serves as the stadium announcer for all home games for the Marching Indians.



Jeff Williams and Jesse Evans

Jeff is a former Championship member of Phantom Regiment, and now is working with the portage band. He is happily working on major drilling and also as a brass specialist. Jesse Evans a Valparaiso University student and former Glassmen is taking care of all aspects of marching concepts.



Marcus DePasquale and Chris Vanderwall

Marcus as thought is Mr. D's little brother a drum major for two years and a member of Fred J. Miller camps he brings his own unique style to the table. Chris is the camp's percussion instructor a solid member of the marching community and brings a lot to the table.



Jeremy Walters

Jeremy is a graduate of Portage High School. He has spent 4 years in the band program, and is now coming back to help the Marching Band by working with the Percussion, giving suggestions, and working on the website.
